The Range and advice

Newton TrainerThe Newton range of shoes is arranged in Men's and Women's with two types of shoe. A very lightweight racing shoe and two types of training shoe (for neutral runners and a more supported version). Click here to view the range and buy through our online shop. We would recommend trying a half size larger than your standard trainer so for example if you are size 9.5UK in your existing shoe would recommend trying size 10UK because of the way they are designed to make you run more mid and fore-foot you will find yourself naturally running with more weight on your toes so will probably need a little more room up front.

Newton StabilityEditor's Comments: I would recommend for an initial purchase trying the training shoe (either neutral or support version). There is very little weight difference between the race and trainer so will only be important for when every second counts! Both will almost certainly be lighter than your existing trainers. If you are new to this running style (if you currently heel strike) the racing shoe will not be suitable because it has less cushioning and is designed for running fast with correct technique! (and if you heavily heel strike when running you will want to look at the major brands as these won't be suitable for you!).

Newton RacerYou will want to alternate between your existing trainers for a few weeks while getting used to these shoes (they do feel different) and also to let your muscles adapt if this is a new style of running for you. Then when you are used to the running style and shoes you will want to purchase the race shoe!

As a rough guide if you are running sub 6-minute mile pace for a good distance you are likely to not be heel striking heavily so these trainers will help you transition to a more efficient style of running.

About the brand

The brand is worn by athletes such as Michellie Jones, Craig Alexander, Peter Reid, Paula Newby-Fraser and Natascha Badmann to name just a few and are highly regarded in the triathlon community.

Newton shoes have very quickly gained popularity with triathletes in the US, with some Ironman events reporting that 20% of athletes are racing in the shoes!

We will be one of the first UK stockists of this brand and are sure the shoes will gain similar popularity being the fastest triathlon shoes around especially for those with a forefoot/midfoot style of running (which we would recommend as the most efficient running style, think how you would run barefoot or the technique of any top runner; Ethiopian/Kenyan style of running, Haile Gabreselassie, Michael Johnson style etc).
